    ২০১৬ সালে Tomek ষষ্ঠ বারের মত নাঙ্গা অভিযান করে ফিরে আসে। কিন্তু সে বছরই প্রথম বার নাঙ্গা পর্বতে উইন্টার সামিট হয়। এ খবরে অনেকটা অভিমানে Tomek ঘোষণা দিলেন, তিনি নাঙ্গা পর্বতে আর অভিযান করবেন না। কিন্তু যায় স্বপ্ন ছিলো এই নাঙ্গা পর্বতকে নিয়ে সে কি আর দূরে থাকতে পারে! ঠিক এক বছর পরেই ২০১৮ সালে Tomek তার ক্লাইম্বিং পার্টনার Elisabeth কে সাথে নিয়ে আবারো নাঙ্গা পর্বতে উইন্টার এক্সপেডিশন শুরু করে।

    এবার কিন্তু নাঙ্গা পর্বত তাদের হতাশ করে নি। ২০১৮ সালের আজকের দিনে (২৫ জানুয়ারী) টোমেক ও এলিজাবেথ নঙ্গা পর্বতে ডাইমার র‍্যুটে উইন্টার সামিট করে। পূরণ হয় টোমেকের দীর্ঘ লালিত স্বপ্ন। কিন্তু নাঙ্গা পর্বতকে নিয়ে যার এতো স্বপ্ন সে কি করে নাঙ্গা পর্বত থেকে দূরে থাকে। সেদিন এলিজাবেথ ফিরে এলেও টোমেক আর ফিরে আসে নি। সামিটেই Tomek-এর খারাপ লক্ষ্য করেন এবং তাকে নিচে নিয়ে যেতে শুরু করেন Elisabeth। এলিজাবেথ জানিয়েছিলেন, টোমেক দেখতে সমস্যা হচ্ছিলো, নাক দিয়ে রক্ত আসছিলো এবং ঠিক ভাবে কথা বলতে পারছিলো না। খারাপ আবহাওয়া ও তীব্র বাতাস থেকে রক্ষা পাবার জন্য একটি ক্রেভাসে আশ্রয় নেয়। এলিজাবেথ নিজেও ফ্রস্ট বাইটে আক্রান্ত হয়। এলিজাবেথ বেইজ ক্যাম্পে সাহায্যের জন্য খবর পাঠায় এবং ধীরে ধীরে নিচে নামতে থাকে। Tomek তীব্র তুষারপাতে স্নো ব্লাইন্ডনেসে আক্রান্ত হয়েছলো। এটিও বিশ্বাস করা হয় যে তিনি পরবর্তিতে হাই-এল্টিটিউড পালমোনারি এডিমা এবং হাই-এল্টিটিউড সেরিব্রাল এডিমা আক্রান্ত ছিলেন।

    সে সময় K2 পর্বতে উইন্টার এক্সপেডিশনে ছিলো বেশ কিছু পোলিশ মাউন্টেইনার। সেখান থেকে বিখ্যাত পর্বতারোহী ডেনিস উরুবকো এবং অ্যাডাম বিলেকি উদ্ধারকারী দলে যুক্ত হয়। উদ্ধারকারী দলটি এলিজাবেথকে ৬০২৬ মিটার থেকে উদ্ধার করে এবং তাকে নিরাপদে নিয়ে আসে। কিন্তু Tomek, যিনি প্রায় ৭৪০০ মিটারে ছিলেন বলে মনে করা হয়েছিলো, খারাপ আবহাওয়া এবং তুষারঝড়ের কারণে উদ্ধারকারীরা তাকে উদ্ধারের জন্য ফিরে যাননি এবং তাকে উদ্ধার করা যায়নি।

    পরবর্তীতে, এলিজাবেথের ক্লাইম্বিং পার্টনার লুডোভিক গিয়াম্বিয়াসি (Ludovic Giambiasi) লিখেছেন:

    “The rescue for Tomasz is unfortunately not possible – because of the weather and altitude it would put the life of rescuers in extreme danger. It’s a terrible and painful decision. … All our thoughts go out to Tomek’s family and friends. We are crying.”

    নিঃসন্দেহে জুতা ট্রেকিং ও পর্বতারোহণের ক্ষেত্রে সবচেয়ে ব্যক্তিগত এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পছন্দের উপকরণ। আপনার জ্যাকেট, কিছুটা ঢিলেঢালা বা একটু টাইট হলেও এটি তার কাজ করবে। যদি আপনার জুতা ছোট বা বড় হয় তবে ভাবুনতো একবার কেমন পরিস্থিতি হবে! ছোট হলে আপনার পায়ের নখ উঠে যেতে পারে বা নখ আঘাতপ্রাপ্ত হতে পারে। অপর দিকে বড় হলে আপনার পায়ে বিরক্তিকর ফোস্কা (Blister) সৃষ্টি করতে পারে। ব্রিটিশ সেনাবাহিনী তাদের পরিধেয় বুটকে তাদের ল্যান্ড রোভার বলে – এগুলো সৈনিকদের অউটডোর কিটের অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয়।

    অতএব, দোকানের তাক থেকে আপনার দিকে শূন্য দৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে থাকা শত শত সুন্দর ডিজাইনের ও রঙের আকর্ষনীয় জুতা থেকে কিভাবে আপনি একটি ট্রেকিং বা একটি পর্বতের জন্য সঠিক জুতা বাছাই করবেন? ট্রেকিং বা পর্বতারোহণে যাবার আগে উপযুক্ত জুতা বাছাই করা একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও বুদ্ধিমানের মত কাজ। অন্যথায় হিতে বিপরীত হতে সময় লাগবে না। এমনও হতে পারে যে ট্রেকিং বা পর্বতারোহণের মাঝ পথেই আপনাকে শুধু মাত্র জুতার কারণে ফিরে আসতে হতে পারে। এই অংশটি পড়ার পরে, আশা করি আপনি যে ট্রেকিং বা যে পর্বতে যান না কেন সঠিক জুতা বাছাই করে নিতে পারবেন।

    সাধারণ উপদেশ

    * একটি স্বনামধন্য ও ব্রান্ডেড অ্যাডভেঞ্চার দোকান থেকে জুতা ক্রয় করবেন।

    * দোকানে এটেন্ডেন্টকে বলুন আপনি আপনার জুতা কোথায় ও কি কাজে ব্যবহার করার পরিকল্পনা করছেন এবং তার পরামর্শের জন্য জিজ্ঞাসা করুন।

    * জুতা কিনতে তাড়াহুড়ো করবেন না। সময় নিন, একাধিক জুতা পরিধান করে দেখুন। যদি আপনি সেগুলো নিয়ে কম্ফোর্টেবল ফিল না হন তবে একটি ভিন্ন জোড়া ট্রাই করুন৷ জুতার জন্য আপনাকে একটি বড় অর্থ ব্যয় করতে হচ্ছে তাই অবশ্যই সঠিক জুতা বেছে নিন।

    * আপনার জুতায় অবশ্যই টো সাপোর্ট (Toe Guard) ও গোড়ালি সাপোর্ট (Ankle Guard) থাকা উচিত। পা মচকানো বা গোড়ালি মচকানোর জন্য পর্বত হচ্ছে একটি অত্যন্ত উপযুক্ত স্থান। জুতায় Ankle Guard থাকলে আপনার পা বিশেষ সুরক্ষিত থাকে।

    * জুতা অবশ্যই পানি নিরধক হওয়া উচিৎ।

    * ট্রেকিং-এ জুতা পরিধান করে আপনি কতটা কম্ফোর্ট ফিল করছেন সেটি খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এমন জুতা কখনই কিনবেন না যা আপনার পা কে কম্ফোর্ট দেয় না। সেই সাথে ট্রেকিং জুতার সোল হতে হবে ফ্লেক্সিবল ও তুলনামূলক হালকা।

    * জুতায় অবশ্যই ভালো গ্রিপ করার ক্ষমতা থাকতে হবে।

    * বর্তমানে ব্রিথেবল জুতাও পাওয়া যায়।

    পাহাড়ের জুতারর ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের মনের মধ্যে ২টি বিকল্প চিন্তা আছে। একটি নিয়ম হিসাবে, জুতা যত ভারী হবে তত গরম হবে এবং বুট যত হালকা হবে আপনার নমনীয়তা এবং গতি তত বেশি হবে। এটি লক্ষ রাখা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যে, যদি আবহাওয়া খারাপ হয়ে যায, তাপমাত্রা কমে যায় এবং বৃষ্টি শুরু হয়, তবে শরীরের প্রান্তস্থ (Peripheral Organ ) অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গগুলো প্রথমে আক্রান্ত করে। সুতরাং, জুতা পছন্দ অবশ্যই এমন অবস্থার কথা বিবেচনা করেই নিতে হবে।

    হাই এল্টিটিউড ট্রেকিং ও পর্বতারোহণের জন্য জুতার বিষয়টি ৪টি ক্যাটাগরিতে আলাদা করে উল্ল্যেখ করে কথা বলে যায়ঃ

    মাউন্টেনিয়ারিং বুট (৭০০০-৮০০০ মিটারের পর্বতের জন্য):

    * মেরু অঞ্চল ও হাই এল্টিটিউড মাউন্টেইনের পরিবেশের জন্য বিশেশভাবে প্রস্তুত করা।

    * যারা নিয়মিত পর্বতারোহীদের জন্য উপযুক্তভাবে প্রস্তুতকৃত।

    * ১.৫ কেজি(৩.৩ পাউন্ড)-এর বেশি ওজনের হয়ে থাকে।

    * হাই অউটার লেয়ার, ডাবল হুল ও লুপ বন্ধ থাকে।

    * ক্রাম্পন আটকানোর সুবিধা থাকে।

    * গেইটার সংযুক্ত থাকে।

    * পর্বতে ব্যবহার্য্য অন্যান্য প্রকারের জুতার তুলনায় অধিক ব্যয় বহুল।

    আল্পাইন বুট (৬০০০ মিটার উচ্চতার জন্য):

    * পর্বতের পরিবেশের জন্য উপযুক্ত করে প্রস্তুত।

    * নিয়মিত বড় পর্বত আরোহীহণের জন্য প্রস্তুত করা।

    * ১ কেজি বা ২.২ পাউন্ডের বেশি ওজন হয়ে থাকে।

    * সোল অধিকতর শক্ত।

    * এঙ্কেল উচ্চতর হয়ে থাকে।

    * ক্রাম্পন আটকানোর সুবিধা থাকে।

    * ট্রেকিং বুটের তুলনায় ব্যয় বহুল

    হেভী ওয়েট ট্রেকিং বুটঃ

    * সাধারণত সম্পূর্ণ চামড়া দিয়ে তৈরী হয় তবে বর্তমানে কিছু কিছি সিনথেটিক ম্যাটেরিয়াল দিয়েও তৈরী করা হয়ে থাকে।

    * ১ কেজি বা ২.২ পাউন্ডের বেশি হয়ে থাকে।

    * সাধারণত ক্রাম্পন লাগানো যায় না। তবে কিছু কিছু বুটে ক্রাম্পন লাগানো যেতে পারে।

    * দীর্ঘ ব্যবহারকাল, ওয়াটার প্রুফ ও উষ্ণ হয়ে থাকে।

    * ব্যয় বহুল হয়ে থাকে।

    লাইট ওয়েট ট্রেকিং বুটঃ

    * সাধারণত ১ কেজি (২.২ পাউন্ড) থেকে ১.৫ কেজি (৩.৩ পাউন্ড) ওজনের হয়।

    * ব্যাকপ্যাকারদের জন্য সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় জুতা।

    * প্রায়শই সিনথেটিক ম্যাটেরিয়াল, সোয়েড ও অন্যান্য উপকরণ দিয়ে প্রস্তুত করা হয়ে থাকে।

    * এগুলো আরামদায়ক, ব্রিথেবল ও কুইক ড্রাই হয়ে থাকে।

    * নতুন অবস্থায় এই জুটাগুলো ওয়াটার প্রুফ, ব্রিথেবল হয়ে থাকে তবে বারবার ব্যবহার ও সময়ের সাথে সাথে এই বৈশিষ্টগুলো কার্যকারিতা হারায়।

    * হেভী ওয়েট ট্রেকিং বুটের তুলনায় কম টেকসই হয়।
